On Wednesday 8th May, Olmec partnered with Brent Works to host a successful Careers and Future Employability Event at the Brent Civic Centre. The event brought together local residents, community leaders, and partner organisations for a day dedicated to employment support, professional development, and opportunity-sharing.

This free event welcomed individuals from across Brent and the surrounding areas looking to explore careers, build skills, and connect with services offering guidance and training. Attendees had the chance to hear from Brent Works, the Chalkhill Community Trust Fund, and Olmec, with talks focused on employability, funding opportunities, and local programmes that support Black and minoritised communities into sustainable work and leadership roles.
Alongside the talks, attendees were able to meet a range of organisations offering support with job searching, CV building, training, and pathways into governance and board-level opportunities through Olmec’s Step Change programme.
The event formed part of a wider commitment to providing long-term support to Chalkhill and Brent residents, creating spaces for networking, peer learning, and direct access to tools for personal and professional growth.
We’d like to thank all the speakers, stallholders, and attendees who helped make the day a success. We’re excited to continue building on this work through upcoming free group training sessions in June and July.
If you’re based in Brent and from a Black or minoritised background, or know someone who could benefit from the Step Change programme, help us spread the word!
